SSG Project Case Study

Park Developments, established in 1962, has earned a strong reputation for constructing high-quality residential and commercial properties. Over the past 50 years, the company has built 15,000 houses and apartments, primarily in the Dublin area, adhering to exacting standards, including first-class finishes and award-winning landscape designs.

Challenge


Despite a history of embracing technology, Park Developments found that its existing accounting had not kept pace with technological advances or the company’s growing business needs. They required a more sophisticated solution to handle various transactions related to property sales, rentals, and sub-contractor management. Additionally, they needed an accounting application with job costing as its core ledger, capable of managing multiple companies and interfacing with a large database of sub-contractors. Comprehensive reporting across all management levels, both at the company and group level, was also critical.



Solution


In 2015, we implemented the Advanced Business Manager (ABM) Accounting system, complete with all necessary modules, including Job Costing and Payroll.


Multi-Company Database Structure

We established several companies within the system and structured the databases to ensure that reports were available at both the company and group levels. This setup allowed real-time access to payroll information at all management levels.


Database and Data Migration

A comprehensive database was created within ABM Accounting. We imported the Masterfile data and outstanding transactions into the new system to reconcile existing ledgers. The ABM Accounting database was then deployed on-site, providing a robust and scalable solution.


Microsoft Excel Power Query

We introduced Power Query a business intelligence tool available in Excel that allows you to extract data from many different sources and then clean, transform and reshape your data as needed.


It allows you to set up a query once and then reuse it with a simple refresh. The best part about it, is you don’t need to learn or use any code to do any of it. Once you select the Excel report it grabs the data from ABM and presents it in the format required.

 


Results


The transition to the new systems provided Park Developments with a global, technologically advanced platform that not only met their current needs but also offered additional functionality. As technology evolves, the system is designed to be updated, ensuring Park Developments remains at the forefront of industry advancements. The new solution has significantly enhanced their ability to manage transactions, track job costs, handle multiple companies, and generate comprehensive reports, all while supporting remote access for a modern, flexible approach to business management.
